The verdict is for threatening to kill his ex-girlfriend Boryana Rangelova

The prosecutor’s son Vasil Mihailov received a suspended sentence of one year and 8 months with a 4-year probationary period for threatening to kill his ex-boyfriend Boryana Rangelova, who was even released from custody. This was decided by the Sofia District Court.

Mihailov was convicted that on October 28, 2022, he threatened to kill the girl and started hitting her. His words were “I’m going to kill you.” However, he was acquitted of 3 other threats that occurred around the same time. Therefore, he was sentenced to a year suspended with a 3-year probationary period. Judge Yana Dimitrova also ordered that Mihailov be released from custody immediately.

The lawyer added that less than a month before, Vasil Mihailov was sentenced to a year and 8 months of probation in a case in Slivnitsa. The sentence had not entered into force, therefore Dimitrova cumulated the two sentences. She imposed a total maximum penalty of one year and 8 months suspended with a 4-year probationary period.

Both Mihailov and the prosecution can appeal. Prosecutor Georgi Ivanov can also attack Mihailov’s release from custody. He said he would protest both the low sentence and the youth’s release from custody. Before that, Ivanov asked for a 5-year effective sentence.

Mihailov also has probation from the court in Burgas. He is the son of the prosecutor from Pernik, Biser Mihailov. He was the deputy district prosecutor of Pernik, and after his son was arrested in 2022, he left the chief post, but remained a rank-and-file prosecutor. He was charged with domestic violence, but the charge was dropped.

There is also a case against Vasil for several beatings and hooliganism in Pernik. Since the accusers and the judges there filed their objections, the case came to Sofia. There are also several prosecutorial files against Mihailov. It is not clear whether he will not be prematurely detained on one of them and thus not get out of custody.
