American billionaire Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite company is conducting the tests in Romania with the consent and support of the National Authority for the Administration and Regulation of Communications (ANCOM), and the aim is to show through these attempts that a global regulation of the 1990s, which technically limits the new generation of satellites, can be eased without affecting the operation of classic satellites, reports Digi24, referring to the site Profit.ro (Profit.ro).

According to the publication, Elon Musk wants to demonstrate that Starlink satellites can operate at up to eight times the capabilities currently allowed by the so-called Equivalent Power Flux Density (EPFD) limit of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). BTA reported. Billionaire SpaceX, which controls Starlink, has long lobbied to increase the EPFD limit, arguing that it is too low to achieve its goal.

The company recently asked the US telecommunications regulator, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), to stop waiting for the rules to be changed by the International Telecommunication Union and relax regulation in the United States.

Romania is the first country in the world, on the territory of which such tests are conducted. The National Authority for Communications Administration and Regulation will announce the results of the International Telecommunication Union meetings dedicated to the topic, it is clear from the publication.
