Remembering Aghor Mandal with respect and love

The memorial service of legendary sports journalist and senior member and former acting president of Bangladesh Sports Journalists Association (BSJA) Aghor Mondal was held on Wednesday (October 2) afternoon at BSJA office.

Former players, organizers, journalists commemorated dear Aghor Mandal in the meeting titled ‘Remembrance’. Two girls from Aghor Mandal were present in this memorial meeting. BSJA president ATM Saiduzzaman presided over the commemorative meeting moderated by BSJA senior member Raihan Al Mughani.

In the beginning, ATM Saiduzzaman said, Aghor’s grandfather is my journalistic life teacher. There are so many memories with him, it would take several evenings to tell. I just wish grandpa is well, his family is well.

Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu, the former captain of the national team and currently the chief selector of the national team, said that there is no question about Aghor’s reporting. He used to bring out the relevant issues very nicely. He used to share with us the stories of how he used to run around the country and abroad for a good interview. Some people go hard, they may have some dissatisfaction. We athletes are praised in many ways. But what about journalists? We have no platform through which we cannot honor journalists.’

Special Correspondent of Jago News Arifur Rahman Babu said, it is surprising to think that we have to commemorate our deceased grandfather. I didn’t even think of doing something like that. But it feels very difficult.’

Masood Parvez, Special Correspondent of Dainik Kal Kantha, said, ‘I have reached the stage as a reporter working under Aghor Dada, all credit to him. I can say from my experience working with him, we don’t get many reporters like him in sports.’

Former footballer Sheikh Mohammad Aslam said, ‘Aghor Dada will be gone so soon, it is difficult for me to accept it. I hope grandpa is at peace, doing well.’

General Secretary of BSJA Anisur Rahman said that BSJA has always stood by the members. We were with Aghor’s grandfather. I will stay ahead. Aghorda’s two daughters are our daughters. BSJA will always be there for any need.’

Former women’s badminton player and organizer Kamrun Nahar Dana said, “We all know we all have to leave.” But some things hurt a lot. We lost him too soon. I pray for Aghor’s soul to rest in peace.’

Remembering Aghor Mandal with respect and love

Mustafa Mamun, the editor of Desh Parwaran, said, Aghor Mandal is the best cricket reporter in Bangladesh for us. His effort to become number one is an inspiration for the rest. If someone follows it, it will improve.

Sports organizer Ashiqur Rahman Miku said, Aghor Mandal is a big sports personality of our country. I think his memory should be preserved.’

Abdul Ghaffar, a former player of the national football team, said Dada was a person beyond comparison. To remember Dada, we need to create such a platform to remember him forever.

Journalist Shahidul Azam said, we are going through the time of pain. We have lost our loved ones. Aghor Mandal is the star journalist of our sports arena, whom we have lost. Aghor is not only a sports journalist, but his scope is wider.’

Journalist N Shafiqul Komir Sabu said, I used to read Aghor’s writings regularly. I was impressed by his writing. I could not see him in his last days. I hope Aghor is in peace wherever he is.’

Journalist Kamal Ahmed said, he had many human qualities. Even though he was sick himself, he took care of everyone’s health. He used to inquire when he met. Impossibly good as a human being. Maybe he was strict in the professional space.

Journalist Taosia Islam said, Aghor’s grandfather was extraordinary from a professional point of view. If I had met such a man at the beginning of my career, it would have been better for my career.

Former hockey player Rafiqul Islam Kamal said that no one could have done better than Aghor Dada the ability to evaluate people. I would have thought in my playing life, if Aghor Da would have taken an interview. My dream has come true.’

Journalist Tarek Mahmud said, Aghor Dar’s timing was very good. Wherever he went, he reached before time. It is exemplary.

Journalist Arafat Zubair said, he thought the world was different. Which is very instructive for us. His special report, when compiled, will be accessible to new generations. How a reporter can be a reporter can only be understood by following the life of Aghor Dada.’

Anurima, the elder daughter of Aghor Mandal, said, “My father must be at peace wherever he is with the love of all of you.” He was very honest as a father. Loved family. He always wanted us to follow his path. Please pray that I and my younger sister can keep the honor of our father.
