The native of Ksar El Kebir began his sporting journey since the 1st year of college when he participated in his first race organized as part of the school games in his hometown, before entering local, regional and national competitions. which led her to join the Kasri athletics club.
In a statement to MAP, the Moroccan athlete stressed that the commitment and encouragement of his parents were a motivation for him to pursue his sporting career, recalling that the discovery of his talent comes to one of his sports teachers at college who registered him for the local championship which he won to continue his participation in races by placing 3rd on the podium at the Moroccan youth championship in 2013.
The 27-year-old athlete indicated that he was torn between continuing his studies and entering the professional world of sport, explaining that he made the choice to professionalize and leave school. to join the FAR club after successfully passing the aptitude exam six years ago.
Regarding the importance of training, Hamza Sahli noted that the targeted and practical programs of coaches and technical managers, group exercises and good mental preparation are all factors which played a big role in his athletic development and the helped to develop his level and obtain honorable results.
The context imposed by the coronavirus pandemic has not diminished his will and determination by continuing his preparations for international sporting events, in order to preserve his physical form thanks to the help and support of his coaches and supervisors while throughout the confinement period, he noted.
He affirmed that the professional framework, the good conditions within the National Athletics Institute of Rabat, the preparation courses in the city of Ifrane and the support of the Royal Moroccan Athletics Federation were the vector to achieve honorable results in many events, adding that he continues to work to achieve even more positive results.
The Moroccan athlete stressed that he is fully focused on reaching the steps of the podium and offering Morocco one of the medals of the Tokyo Olympics, recognizing that the task will not be easy in the presence of runners belonging to the best-known schools of the African continent, such as Kenya and Ethiopia. He promised that he will spare no effort to achieve victory over his rivals, especially after the great efforts made during training and the confidence he enjoys.
Hamza Sahli participated in several sporting events where he achieved good results, including first place in the 5th edition of the marathon in the Japanese city of Beppu Oita (2h 8min 1sec), 8th place at the World Championship in Doha in 2019 (1h 11min 49sec) which allowed him to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics, in addition to improving his personal best at the half-marathon world championship held last week in the Polish city of Gdynia (1h 00min 4 sec).
