Jerusalem: The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said eight soldiers were killed in combat operations in Lebanon on Wednesday. It is the first loss to Israeli forces since crossing the border to target Hezbollah. Today itself the Israeli Army had informed that one of its Captain Eitan Itzhak was martyred during military action. The IDF had previously reported it as the first loss in ground operations in Lebanon. However, the number of martyred soldiers was later updated.

What did the Israeli army say?

Seven more soldiers have made the supreme sacrifice during military operations in Lebanon, the IDF said in a statement. “Captain Eitan Itzhak Oster, age 22… was killed in action in Lebanon,” the military said. A military website said Oster was killed during Wednesday’s operation. However, no further details related to his death were given.

Hezbollah claimed to destroy the tanks

Meanwhile, Hezbollah has claimed that it has destroyed three tanks of the Israeli army and killed dozens of soldiers. The Lebanese militia also said its fighters were clashing with Israeli troops. The group also earlier claimed to have forced Israeli troops to retreat as they attempted to enter the border village of Adesseh in the north-east.

Hezbollah threatened Israel

“This is just the beginning of the confrontation,” Mohammed Afif, a Hezbollah spokesman holed up in the Lebanese capital Beirut, told media. “Resistance in the south is at its highest level,” he said, referring to Hezbollah fighters. The Lebanese army also said Israeli forces had briefly violated the border line between the two countries.

Lebanese army also issued a statement

X stated that “Israeli enemy forces breached the Blue Line by about 400 meters (yards) into Lebanese territory in two sectors, then withdrew after a short time.” Early Wednesday, the Israeli military ordered the evacuation of several other areas in southern Lebanon and asked residents to leave more than 20 villages and towns in southern Lebanon.
