A nuclear power plant in Russia’s Kursk region is operating as usual and radiation levels remain normal, operator Rosenergoatom said, cited by Reuters, following unconfirmed reports in Russian media of an attempted Ukrainian attack on the plant.

Earlier today, several Russian channels on the Telegram platform reported a Ukrainian attack that they said was thwarted by Russian air defenses but resulted in a fire several kilometers from the facility.

Reuters was unable to independently verify the claims.

Ukrainian forces crossed the border into Russia’s Kursk region in the early hours of August 6 and remain there, even as the Russian army tries to push them out, Reuters noted.

Earlier today, TASS reported that Russian electronic warfare forces shot down a Ukrainian drone over the city of Kurchatov near the Kursk NPP.

The governor of the Kursk region, Alexey Smirnov, reported in “Telegram” that the downed drone hit a nearby building, which, however, has nothing to do with the nuclear power plant. Smirnov specified that teams of the emergency service are working at the place of the fall.
