Within the framework of the tenth anniversary Baku International Book Exhibition (Baku International Book Fair – 2024) the opening of the Russian stand took place, where new products and classics were presented, as well as works of Azerbaijani writers translated into Russian, Day.Az reports.
Baku International Book Fair – 2024, which is taking place from 2 to 8 Octoberdedicated to the 530th anniversary of the birth of the great Azerbaijani poet and thinker Muhammad Fuzuli (1494-1556).
Publishers and writers from Russiawho will hold a number of presentations during the exhibition. Senior Counselor of the Russian Embassy in Azerbaijan took part in the opening ceremony Andrey RumyantsevExecutive Director of the Translation Institute Evgeniy Reznichenko and writer Natalya Bekirova.
Evgeniy Reznichenko, in an interview with Trend Life, noted the importance of holding the Baku International Book Exhibition, in which he has been participating for the third year in a row.
“At our stand, which was created in partnership with the Russian House in Baku and with the support of the Russian Embassy in Azerbaijan, the Association of the Russian Writers’ Union and the Yeltsin Center, books from more than fifty publishers are presented. We have very close ties with Azerbaijani partners related to book publishing and translation. Therefore, when we come here, we meet friends. It is very important for us that Russian literature is published in different languages and in different countries. We have fruitful cooperation with the State Translation Center of Azerbaijan, with which we signed an agreement and created the “Time of the Illuminated” series – five. books translated from Russian into Azerbaijani, and five books translated from Azerbaijani into Russian. We plan to continue this joint cooperation. We have a large program – events and meetings will be held at the Heydar Aliyev Center, the Azerbaijan University of Languages, the Russian House in Baku, in the Azerbaijan Writers Union, etc.,” said Yevgeny Reznichenko.
Natalya Bekirova noted that she was very glad to come to Baku for the first time.
“It’s a pleasure to take part in such an exhibition, where there are a large number of visitors and interest in literature. It is very important that such exhibitions bring our peoples together and contribute to the mutual enrichment of cultures,” the writer told Trend Life.
Director of the Moscow publishing house “Rudomino Book Center” Veniamin Astrakhantsev also takes part in the exhibition for the third time.
“Our stand presents classic works and children’s literature in a new design, as well as books by foreign authors translated into Russian. We really like the Baku Book Exhibition, where there are always a lot of visitors, literature lovers, and genuine interest in Russian literature. It should be noted that we have translated a number of works by Azerbaijani writers, including Yusif Vezir Chemenzemenli, Yusif Samadoglu, Elchin Efendiyev and Elvira Arasli, which are presented at our stand. This project, which involves the release of ten books, was carried out with the State Translation Center of Azerbaijan to familiarize Russian readers. with works by Azerbaijani authors,” Veniamin Astrakhantsev told Trend Life.
The exhibition is attended by 56 foreign organizations, famous writers and poets, scientists, young writers from 18 countries, representing 4 continents, 110 local publishing houses and enterprises related to book art. As part of the exhibition, a rich program has been prepared, more than 300 events will take place, including master classes for children and adults, presentations of books on inclusion and other relevant topics, autograph sessions, conferences, symposiums, competitions, reading and music evenings, and cooperation platforms have been organized between subjects of the book industry. The 16th meeting of the Asian Committee “Story Arts”, of which Azerbaijan is a member, will also be held.
Special buses will be organized to transport visitors to the Baku Expo Center from the Elmlyar Akademiyasi, 28 May and Koroglu metro stations.
The exhibition will be open to the public every day from 10:00 to 20:00. Admission is free.
