In 2025, the general budget with which the Legislative Assembly will operate will be $46.9 million, that is, it will have a reduction of $7.2 million compared to the amount of $54.1 million with which it currently operates. In addition, it will have a reduction of $11.3 million compared to the $58.3 million budget approved, for fiscal year 2021, by the legislature dominated by ARENA, the FMLN, and deputies Rodolfo Parker and Mario Ponce.
$18.6 million less will be allocated to pay salaries than the budget found by the Nuevas Ideas deputies upon assuming their first term, as announced by the president of the Legislative Assembly, Ernesto Castro, on Monday, after receiving from the Minister of Treasury, Jerson Posada, the 2025 General State Budget project, which, for the first time in decades, will be fully funded.
The official explained that, in 2021, when the Nuevas Ideas deputies took office for the first time, they found a legislative budget of $58.3 million, an amount with which they worked from May to December of that year. In 2022 they approved a reduction of $700,000 compared to 2021 and the following year they made a new decrease for the same amount.
While in the 2024 budget they authorized another reduction of $4.2 million, compared to the 2021 budget. For next year, another reduction of $7.2 million has been contemplated, so the general budget of the institution will be $46.9 million.
“We are going to make a reduction of $18.6 million. It’s what we have to do as public officials. All State bodies must be in line with what the people are requesting. This has to be a before and after. We have to be efficient with the resources of Salvadorans, we have to know how to manage them in a good way,” he said.
The official reiterated that the deputies will continue to provide governance to President Nayib Bukele so that he gives continuity to the plans that have allowed transformations in El Salvador in record time.
