The photo shows the fighter’s fuselage being assembled on the production line of the Korean Aerospace Industries plant in the South Korean city of Sacheon. The aircraft with tactical number 5013 became the first aircraft of the PL modification.
The Polish version of the Korean aircraft will receive a Raytheon PhantomStrike radar with an active phased array antenna and a Link 16 data link. The FA-50PL will be able to carry GBU-12 Paveway II guided bombs weighing 230 kilograms, a Sniper ATP targeting container and small air-to-air missiles range of AIM-9X Sidewinder. The aircraft will also receive a boom for in-flight refueling, and the pilot will be able to use a helmet-mounted target designation system.
The purchase agreement for FA-50PL was concluded in 2022. The first aircraft may be delivered to Warsaw in 2025. Most of the 36 fighters ordered are believed to be in various stages of production.
