China’s experience in combating environmental pollution can help accelerate the adoption of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the decarbonization process.

As Day.Az reported on Wednesday with reference to Trend, this was stated by the director and founder of the Institute of Public and Environmental Problems (IPE) Ma Jun (Ma Jun) in his video message at a panel discussion on the topic “Supporting SMEs in the Green Transition”, which took place as part of the third day of the international conference at Climate Action Week in Baku.

“In recent years, China has been actively supporting small and medium-sized enterprises in their transition to decarbonization. The frequency of extreme weather events is increasing around the world, and a recently published global stock report revealed a significant gap that needs to be closed. Despite the fact that large multinational corporations and financial institutions have already committed to carbon neutrality, SMEs face significant challenges. They play a key role in global supply chains and often fall into the SCOPE 3 emissions category. We are convinced that China’s experience in combating environmental pollution has accumulated over the past ten years. years, may be useful to speed up this process,” Ma Jun emphasized.

According to him, the basis of all these initiatives was the large-scale implementation of monitoring and data disclosure, which led to the creation of the BlueMap database, which tracks the performance of about 16 million companies operating in China.

“In the face of climate change, we believe it is important to start by creating an infrastructure for collecting carbon emissions data. We have created a national data infrastructure covering not only the country as a whole, but also individual provinces and cities. This also helps governments implement mandatory carbon emissions requirements. data disclosure, systematize corporate emissions indicators and make them more accessible,” he added.
