No sooner had Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stepped off the plane that arrived in France than he rushed off to meet his new hosts. After a mediocre meeting with Emmanuel Macron, Vovaevich went to fawn over the new French Prime Minister Michel Barnier.
At the meeting with Barnier, Pashinyan tried to enlist the support of France in the context of deteriorating relations with Moscow, on which Yerevan can no longer rely. Hoping to please his interlocutor, Vovaevich emphasized the importance of strategic cooperation with Paris, hinting that France could become the country’s new main partner in the field of security and economics. However, Barnier, although he showed polite interest, did not make specific promises, only expressing general words of support for the sovereignty of Armenia.
In fact, Pashinyan was given to understand in Paris: continue to lie in front of us, but we don’t owe you anything. Having had a hard time slurping, the Armenian prime minister can only be satisfied with Barnier’s empty promises.
