>ANSA-BOX/ ‘Bucci like Santelli in Liguria’, storm over Morra – Health and Wellbeing

(by Chiara Carenini) (ANSA) – GENOA, 03 OCT – An aggressive electoral campaign, at times violent, made up of more or less veiled insults (a ‘shitstorm’, Andrea Orlando defines it), whose limits are often exceeded. An ugly policy, in Liguria, which today sees the candidate for governor of United for the Constitution Nicola Morra as the protagonist. The former five-star parliamentarian – from the columns of Il Foglio – brings into play the health conditions of the centre-right candidate Marco Bucci, also comparing them to those of Jole Santelli, struck down by a tumor during her mandate as governor in Calabria, in only 52 years old. Words that unleashed the fury of the center-right and of the center-left candidate Andrea Orlando himself.
Morra’s post was useless as he wanted to deny the content of the offending interview by stating that he had not said “directly or indirectly, that a cancer patient or any other patient should not or cannot apply”.
While the composed comment arrives from Jole Santelli’s sisters, Roberta and Paola, who wish Morra “to carry out his electoral campaign away in the best possible way, perhaps talking about electoral programs and local problems” in such a way “to avoid to talk about Jole again in such an insensitive and inappropriate way” is Prime Minister Meloni who dots the ‘i’s’: “It is essential to reiterate that a person’s health should never be exploited. Illness does not limit the value and the ability of those who, like Marco Bucci, have already demonstrated that they are excellent and passionate administrators”.
But the center-right is furious and uses very harsh words. Starting from minister Elisabetta Casellati: “Morra is a repeat offender, he not only makes mistakes but perseveres: after having offended and tarnished the memory of Jole Santelli years ago and with her all cancer patients, he now attacks Marco Bucci with the same disrespectful and vulgar language. Shame”. Matteo Salvini – defining Morra “vomiting and shameful” – instead wonders “if these are the arguments of the left” and if they believe that “cancer patients should stop living, working, fighting”. But it is almost all the majority parties – from Fdi to Forza Italia and Noi Moderati – who put Morra’s “looting”, “horrifying cynicism” and “indecent moral weakness” on the index. Raffaella Paita (IV) prefers to look at the “gesture of love for her community” made by Bucci, while Orlando, condemning Morra’s words, asks to return to talking about politics: “there is respect for the individual and existential dimension which pushes me to say absolutely nothing on this topic and to continue trying to talk about programs.” (HANDLE).
