The Minister of Education and Science, Prof. Galin Tsokov, awarded 50 teachers for developing successful practices for the educational integration and inclusion of children and students from vulnerable groups. This happened during the Ninth National Conference on Educational Integration and Inclusion.

Funds for working with children and students from vulnerable groups have increased by 35% in the last three years, and for 2024 their amount is BGN 48 million, announced Minister Tsokov. However, according to him, better opportunities for participation in national programs of small schools can be sought. He noted that the Ministry of Education and Culture has already provided funding for the schools, which use funds from their budgets to appoint mediators to help integration. In addition, mediators are already included in the List of Professions for Vocational Education and Training.

“You add great value not only to the educational, but also to the personal development of children and students,” said Minister Tsokov. According to him, good practices will help to change the curricula – they can be adapted to each school according to the specifics of students. “We must build a network of like-minded people to multiply your achievements and promote innovation in all schools,” said Minister Tsokov.

During the conference, teachers showed how they work to help every child and student to educate and socialize. Emphasis in practices were teamwork – of students and teachers, application of innovations, project-based learning, with digital technologies, incl. artificial intelligence, education through art, sports and various initiatives.

Teachers provoke interest in knowledge in children by offering them experience, solving tasks through research and practical work. This provokes creativity, builds decision-making skills and boosts their self-esteem. The presented forms of work included the involvement of parents in various forms with education and school life.

A total of 111 developments were selected within the competition organized by the Ministry of Education and Culture. The 50 awarded teachers received certificates and book vouchers. The Union of Bulgarian Teachers also awarded them two credits for a professional qualification degree.

Among the awarded teachers were Stoyanka Miteva and Gergana Koleva from the “Hristo Botev” elementary school in the Burgas village of Exarch Antimovo, who work together and are the authors of the largest number of educational resources in the “Digital Backpack”.

The jury that evaluated the good practices included Prof. Plamen Makariev, Prof. Yanka Totseva, Prof. Liliana Strakova, Prof. Siika Chavdarova-Kostova, Prof. Yosif Nunev and Associate Professor Dr. Emil Buzov. Among the guests at the forum was Ivan Kanchev, deputy chairman of the SBU.
