In his speech during the plenary session of the 77th WHO World Health Assembly, Mr. Ait Taleb indicated that Morocco is working to finalize the structural project for the construction of a vaccine factory, which will help ensure vaccine sovereignty of the Kingdom and the entire African continent.
“The recent health crises that we have faced in a difficult and complex international context, marked by several geostrategic transformations, force us to reaffirm the need to work to eliminate the risks arising from these crises, and to invest more significantly and effectively to develop and strengthen national and continental health sovereignty,” he argued.
Aware of the importance of promoting public health on the African continent, Morocco will host the fourth International Conference on Public Health in Africa next November, he said, noting that this event constitutes an essential platform for exchange experiences and perspectives on strategic issues in African health systems.
The African continent alone bears nearly a quarter of the global burden of infectious and chronic diseases, lamented the minister, assuring that “this conference will be an important opportunity to strengthen efforts of partnership, scientific cooperation and innovation” .
Furthermore, Mr. Ait Taleb stressed that the Kingdom is resolutely moving forward in its ambitious societal project of generalization of social protection, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
This project includes four main axes, including the generalization of compulsory health insurance, while continuing efforts to achieve universal health coverage and the sustainable development goals by 2030, he continued.
Furthermore, the minister praised the achievements of the World Health Organization over the past year in responding to the growing number of health and humanitarian crises across the world, as well as its sustained efforts to strengthen health infrastructure. health and coordinate with various partners.
Mr. Ait Taleb chairs the Moroccan delegation to the work of the 77th World Health Assembly, which continues until June 1, under the theme “a world mobilized for health, health for everyone”.
