Paul recently happened to observe an impressive drone show at the night rallycross in Biķernieki, so he went to visit its authors from the company “Base Motion” to find out how the fireworks alternative was created and how the Latvians managed to gain recognition and orders all over the world.
Armands Blumbergs, the founder and head of Base Motion, admits that he still gets goosebumps watching drone shows, and for him it’s a new and modern way to tell stories with the help of technology. Having previously proven himself in the advertising and film industries, Armands took up drones in 2018, when very few people were engaged in this business even at the world level.
Thanks to the quality, the team of excellent Latvian artists, speed and excellent reputation, this year the world will experience the 1000th drone show created by “Base Motion”, and the company cannot complain about the lack of orders – in August of this year they created 26 shows, in September – already 33. For Latvian viewers The best-known work of “Base Motion” might be “Key to Riga” from last year’s Riga Festival, but the world saw their performance in the performance of 1000 drones by Dallas “Mavericks” fans, the 500 drone show delighted the “Super Bowl” audience, and for Travis Scott‘s concert, with the help of drones, two giant QR code created in days.
Similar to fireworks, in order for a drone show to be successful, suitable weather, software and equipment are needed, which “Base Motion” provides cooperation partners, therefore, the presence of the creators of the show themselves is mostly not physically necessary – each drone knows its task and they are able to perform the planned synchronously , so that Latvian works shine above the metropolises of the world.
