The US military carried out strikes in Yemen on 15 targets associated with the Houthi rebels from the Ansar Allah movement.
As Day.Az reports with reference to TASS, this was reported by the US Central Command (CENTCOM).
“CENTCOM forces today struck 15 Houthi-affiliated targets in Houthi-controlled territory in Yemen around 5:00 p.m. Sana’a time. The targets included offensive weapons,” the statement on X (formerly Twitter) said.
According to the command, such measures “were taken to ensure freedom of navigation and security of international waters for the United States, coalition and merchant vessels.”
Earlier, the rebel-owned Al Masirah TV channel reported that the capital of Sana’a, as well as the cities of Damar, Hodeidah and Al-Beida, were attacked in Yemen.
Following the escalation of the conflict in the Gaza Strip, Ansar Allah warned that it would shell Israel and would not allow associated vessels to pass through the waters of the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandeb Strait until the operation in the Palestinian enclave ceased. Since November last year, the Houthis have attacked dozens of civilian ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
In response to the actions of Ansar Allah, American authorities announced the formation of an international coalition and the launch of Operation Prosperity Guardian to ensure freedom of navigation and protect ships in the Red Sea. Subsequently, the armed forces of Great Britain and the United States began to regularly strike military targets of the rebels in Yemen.
