As part of the events COP29 In Baku on November 20, separate discussions will be held on urbanization, transport and tourism, at which steps to improve the environmental situation in these sectors and “green” trends will be discussed.
As Day.Az reports with reference to Trend, he said this at Baku climate action week Head of the Azerbaijan State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture Anar Guliyev.
According to him, in particular, on November 20, discussions will be held regarding sustainable construction and the use of building materials, the production of which reduces greenhouse gas emissions.
“This year, in connection with COP29, we held several round tables on the topic of sustainable construction, at which issues of urbanization were discussed, taking into account the areas of construction, water supply, and recycling,” Guliyev recalled.
He noted that the state committee is consulting with IFC and EBRD on the Green Cities project as part of the Green citiesaction plan.
“Cities in the world account for 17 percent of greenhouse gas emissions. And to solve this problem, inclusivity and greater participation of the private sector are needed,” Guliyev said.
According to him, the legal framework for the use of green technologies and infrastructure is developing, in particular with regard to the installation of solar panels on buildings.
“Renewable energy sources are included in the long-term urbanization plan in Azerbaijan, taking into account new climate challenges,” Guliyev noted.
He also recalled that the World Urban Development Forum will be held in Baku on May 18-22, 2026.
