Los Albos are in Lima to face Universitario in the debut of the Libertadores, but the Uruguayan coach preferred not to come and say hello.
The Liga de Quito delegation arrived in Lima, Peru this Monday to face Universitario for date 1 of the Copa Libertadores. The King of Cups received visits from Hernán Barcos and Roberto Palacios, who had a great time at the club as champions. Jorge Fossati, former coach of LDU and current coach of the Peruvian National Team, did not stop by to say hello at the U’s concentration.
This caught attention, since Fossati is very loved in the League and on several occasions the Uruguayan has made public his affection for the club. The 71-year-old coach himself referred to his non-visit to the King of Cups camp, despite living in Lima for his current job with the Peruvian National Team.
«I think there is no one else left on the team (which he directed). I only know Humberto Pretti who will coach today, I don’t know the coaching staff or the leaders. I don’t know if they would like him or not, that’s why I avoided going. I called yesterday by phone to ask if Dr. Juan Barriga was here, but they told me that he is not even here,” Fossati declared in dialogue with the Area Deportiva radio.
It is worth remembering that the Uruguayan coached the League for the last time in 2009, with Alexander Domínguez being the only player still on the team.. Fossati had his two stints in the League when Rodrigo and Esteban Paz were the leaders, which is why he did not meet Isaac Álvarez, who joined the defunct Football Commission years after the Uruguayan left.

The now coach of the Peruvian National Team also talked about what will be the match between Universitario and Liga de Quito, teams he coached and was champion: «Liga is a strong team, I would say that it is rearming. Universitario has become a team that has a lot of dynamics and a lot of intensity, it exerts significant pressure on the rival field and demands a lot from you in the game.”
«Experienced players are on both sides, the League is well covered in that sense. My heart is divided, they are two institutions that I love very much. Last year I was talking about Universitario and the name League came up. Everything that I experienced in the League and with its people, I experienced the same here in Universitario. Honestly, today I would say that the favorite is Universitario«, continued Fossati.
