This weekend, the central park of the picturesque parish of Cojitambo became the epicenter of the Nineteenth Corn Festival, attracting more than ten agro-productive associations from across the region.

Producers from Azogues, Biblián, Déleg, Cañar and Suscal met to celebrate and promote corn, one of the most emblematic crops of the province.

During the event, farmers not only exhibited a wide variety of corn and its derivatives, but also exchanged seeds of this invaluable ancestral product. From hard corn to white corn, including zhima corn, participants highlighted the richness and diversity of local crops, fundamental in the preparation of traditional dishes such as mote pillo, chiviles, tortillas, corn colada, humitas, chicha de jora and tamales.

Francisco Ramírez, District Director of MAG Cañar, praised the continued commitment of participating organizations, highlighting how these events not only strengthen the family economy, but also encourage significant improvements in local agricultural production.

Adriana Bravo, president of the Cojitambo Parish Government, expressed her gratitude to the collaborating institutions for their invaluable support, highlighting that the festival has become a pillar of provincial and national tradition. Bravo praised the effort and dedication of the producers, who proudly presented their representative products from every corner of the region.

The 19th Cojitambo Corn Festival not only celebrated local culture and cuisine, but also reaffirmed farmers’ commitment to preserving and promoting an invaluable agricultural legacy to the community and beyond.
