Azerbaijan in the global energy transition“/>
Azerbaijan is at the forefront of the energy transition.
As Day.Az reported on Monday with reference to Trend, this was stated by the resident representative of the UN Development Program in Azerbaijan Alessandra Roccasalvo at an international conference within Climate Action Weeks in Baku.
“As a producer of fossil fuels, Azerbaijan is at the forefront of the energy transition and this comes with great responsibility,” she said.
According to her, UNDP is the largest agency in Azerbaijan dealing with climate change, climate transition and all related aspects.
“I congratulate the COP Presidency on hosting the first Baku Climate Week. This is not a mandatory, but a voluntary event, which I am sure will be highly appreciated,” she emphasized.
It should be noted that the Week of Action runs from September 30 to October 4, 2024 and is being held in Baku for the first time.
The event will form the basis of the climate agenda ahead of COP29 in Baku in November.
Climate Action Week will bring together key stakeholders from a range of sectors such as politics, finance, trade, investment, science, arts, culture, civil society and media.
The main themes of this event are “energy transition”, “cities and urban environments”, “water security”, “food and agriculture”, “SMEs” and “green skills”.
The first half of the week (September 30 – October 2) will focus on climate solutions involving government agencies, academia and the private sector. In the second half (October 3-4), the emphasis will be on science, education, art, culture and other sectors.
