In fact, cabbage prices in Gyeonggi-do last month soared by about 44% compared to last year.
According to the ‘Gyeonggi-do consumer price trend for September 2024’ announced by the Gyeongin Regional Statistics Office, the consumer price index in the province in September was 114.65 (2020 = 100), up 0.1% compared to the previous month and 1.7% compared to the same month last year.
Consumer prices in Gyeonggi-do recorded an increase of around 1%, and the overall price trend appears to be stable, but the skyrocketing prices of agricultural and livestock products are not slowing down. Since February 2021, when the Gyeonggi region recorded a consumer price increase of 1.5%, it has entered the 1% range for the first time in 3 years and 7 months.

Other vegetable foods, including radish at 39.3%, spinach at 38.9%, and lettuce at 37.9%, were also cited as playing a major role in driving up agricultural product prices.
The cost of living index, created based on 144 items with high purchase frequency and expenditure among consumers out of 458 items, rose 0.5% from the previous month and 1.6% from the same month last year. The cost of living index is also called ‘perceived price index’ as it is composed mainly of items that consumers frequently purchase.
Among the items in the cost of living index, food and non-food items rose by 2.8% and 0.8%, respectively.
Among 55 items, the fresh food index, which has large price fluctuations such as seafood, vegetables, and fruits depending on the season and weather conditions, showed a simultaneous upward curve of 4.0% compared to the previous month and 2.0% compared to the same month of the previous year. The fresh food sector is an index that shows trends in ‘food prices’.
In particular, the fresh vegetables sector recorded an increase of 11.1%, a large increase compared to fresh seafood (fish and seafood) of 0.2%.
