“Adaptation is central to the global climate agenda. The world is already facing rising average temperatures, changing seasons and an increase in extreme weather events, requiring countries and communities to be able to adapt to climate change and respond effectively to its current and future impacts,” she said. she.
Adaptation could range from building flood defenses, creating early warning systems, switching to drought-tolerant crops, updating communications systems, business operations and government policies, she said.
Umayra Tagiyeva emphasized that Azerbaijan is also faced with the consequences of climate change typical for the region: soil erosion, melting glaciers, wetland degradation, sea level changes, forest fires and a reduction in water resources, and a reduction in wind activity.
