San Lorenzo stumbled again. After the victory against Banfield last week, Leandro Romagnoli’s team went to Córdoba in search of ratifying an uprising, but they collided with a superior rival who beat them 2-0 and gave them a reality check. The goals from Gonzalo Requena in the first half and from Ignacio Russo at the end of the match made clear the superiority of Instituto, which was placed in the qualification zone for the Copa Sudamericana.
From the outset, Instituto came out to show its offensive intentions, against a San Lorenzo that was outmatched in all sectors of the field and that could only be sustained by the brilliant performance of Chila Gómez, key to keeping zero in its goal. But when the first half was ending, a cross shot by Jonathan Bay deflected off a defender and was served to Requena, who had no problems beating Gómez.
Despite being clearly surpassed, San Lorenzo had the chance to regain parity before the break in its only deep attack of that stage. Muniain, from the edge of the area, assisted Nahuel Bustos, who avoided the bailing of goalkeeper Roffo but could not withstand Requena’s cross, which on the line unleashed his second great celebration for Glory: from his own goal in the rival goal to the goal saved on his own in a handful of minutes.
Little changed in the second half, because Puebla continued to be a problem without a solution for the visiting defense. He was even able to increase the advantage, but the stick saved the San Lorenzo goal. The problem for the Córdoba team was that they did not settle the result and almost paid dearly for it, first with a header from Remedi that Roffo covered well and then with a tackle by Fydriszewski who could not connect well on the edge of the six-yard box.
After the hot flash, Instituto responded as it did throughout the game: with intensity and depth. This is how he finished the game with a great combination of his substitutes. Lo Celso accelerated, Lázaro overflowed and Russo defined in the center before Gómez left. And he was even able to add another goal, since another tackle by the son of the former Central and Boca coach ended again on the left post of the San Lorenzo goal. This is how the Boedo group’s excursion through Córdoba went, with more doubts than certainty.
