‘Luxury Bag’ 13 witnesses and references… Including former president
Deutsche stock price manipulation and nomination intervention… Suspicion of Chae Sang-byeong
Various allegations against First Lady Kim Kun-hee are expected to become a hot topic during the National Assembly Legislation and Judiciary Committee’s audit of government affairs starting this week. The opposition party is expected to launch an intensive attack against the prosecution, which decided not to indict Ms. Kim in connection with the suspicion of receiving luxury bags.
According to the Legislative and Judiciary Committee of the National Assembly on the 6th, it is known that about half of the 100 general witnesses and references approved at the Legislative and Judiciary Committee’s inspection held from the 7th to the 25th are people related to Ms. Kim. This week, government audits are scheduled for the National Court Administration on the 7th, the Ministry of Justice on the 8th, and the Constitutional Court on the 11th.
The National Assembly Legislative and Judiciary Committee is involved in ▲ Suspicion of Lim Seong-geun’s life-saving lobbying ▲ Deutsche Motors stock price manipulation case ▲ Mrs. Kim’s Dior bag acceptance case ▲ Suspicion of Ms. Kim’s interference in nominations ▲ Controversy over the relocation of the President’s office and official residence ▲ Investigation of Ms. Kim’s business trip ▲ Cobana’s bribery sponsorship and lease setting case It was decided to appoint ordinary witnesses.
The witness list included Ms. Kim, her mother Choi Eun-soon, former Deutsche Motors Chairman Kwon Oh-soo, and former Black Pearl Investment CEO Lee Jong-ho, who was pointed out as an accomplice in the stock price manipulation of Deutsche Motors. In addition, former lawmaker Kim Young-sun, Myung Tae-gyun, and Kim Dae-nam, full-time audit committee members of SGI Seoul Guarantee Insurance, who recently raised suspicions about Ms. Kim’s interference in nominations, were also adopted.
In particular, the opposition party adopted 13 witnesses and references in relation to the ‘suspicion of receiving luxury bags’ that the prosecution recently disposed of. Former Prosecutor General Lee Won-seok, Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office Chief Lee Chang-soo, Presidential Secretary for General Affairs Yoon Jae-soon, Presidential Office Deputy Director Kang Kang-gu, and Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission Chairman Yoo Cheol-hwan were also included. Former Constitutional Court Justice Kang Il-won, who was the chairman of the Prosecutor’s Investigation Review Committee, was also included in the list. Their attendance is not yet known.
Suspicions of Deutsche Motors stock price manipulation are also expected to be addressed. The Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office has concluded its investigation into ‘Jeonju’ (錢主), including Ms. Kim’s mother, Choi Eun-soon. As the results of the appeal trial against the main culprits of stock price manipulation, including former Deutsche Motors Chairman Kwon Oh-soo, have been released, it is said that the judgment on whether the former stockholders will be subject to judicial action is almost complete.
The opposition party plans to look closely at the Chae Sang-byeong death case and suspicions of external pressure on the investigation. Key figures in the case, including Lim Seong-geun, former commander of the Marine Corps’ 1st Division, former Minister of National Defense Lee Jong-seop, and Airborne Prosecutors’ Office Director Oh Dong-woon, were selected as witnesses. It is expected that the offensive will continue against the Corruption Investigation Office, which has not investigated the ‘higher-ups’ for over a year.
Former Presidential Office Administrator Kim Dae-nam and Presidential Office Discipline Secretary Lee Won-mo are also called as witnesses to verify suspicions of Ms. Kim’s involvement in nominations. The case was recently assigned to the 4th investigation department of the Corruption Investigation Office and the investigation is ongoing.
Meanwhile, the ruling party requested the use of witnesses such as Da-hye’s daughter Da-hye in connection with the suspicion of preferential employment for former President Moon Jae-in’s former son-in-law, and Yoo Dong-gyu, former head of the Seongnam Urban Development Corporation’s planning headquarters in connection with the Daejang-dong development suspicion, but the request was unsuccessful.
