Not yet a candidate, Gabriel Attal already has an advantage. In an article published on the Opinion62 presidents of the Renaissance departmental assemblies out of 94 ask that Gabriel Attal run for leadership of the Renaissance party.
The post, until now occupied by the former Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs Stéphane Séjourné, is also sought by Élisabeth Borne, who announced her candidacy on 21 August in our columns. “The party does not want to be a presidential stable. It must first and foremost focus on in-depth reflection and mobilizing activists,” he said at the time.
Activism and unifying aspect
Gabriel Attal has been eyeing the position for several weeks now, but has not yet officially announced his candidacy. It seems that the duel is imminent. The authors of the article nevertheless urge the Hauts-de-Seine MP to propose himself, underlining his long-standing activism. “Gabriel Attal has always remained an activist among activists. He proved it again this summer Activist Prime Minister fully assuming the role of leader of the electoral campaign during the legislative elections”, write the 62 presidents.
The authors also underline the unifying side of the president of the parliamentary group, who does not belong “to any movement” but is “capable of representing them all”. The elected representative from the Hauts-de-Seine “has been able to broadly unite and advance our beliefs without ever breaking through or fracturing our unity. He demonstrated his ability to give life to the collective and animate it,” they add.
Finally, for reasons of “coherence and efficiency”, the 62 department presidents believe that the possibility “that the leader of our party is at the same time president of our group in the National Assembly would be an invaluable advantage” to achieve “much greater coherence, strength of impact and strength of conviction”.
