Two years after the devastating floods in the villages of Karlovy Vary, the infrastructure there remains in a dire state. 8 bridges have been rebuilt, but there are still facilities that have been destroyed. In many places the streets have not been restored and there is no lighting.
In the villages of Karavelovo, Slatina and Bogdan, the level of the water that flooded them can still be seen on the houses. People say that new infrastructure is being built, but at the moment it is partial.
“The situation is more or less, average work, they repaired 4-5 bridges. The door is 18 meters long and cost me somewhere around BGN 4,000, with bricks and materials. A lot of aid disappeared, I don’t know where it disappeared,” says Noncho Markov.
There are 12 destroyed bridges. Only 8 have been completely restored. The largest bridge, which unites the villages of Rozino and Slatina, is torn in two, so people detour through other settlements or drive their cars across the river, the locals say.
The local administration specifies that the state grants are piecemeal and the work in the villages stops midway because the money is running out, writes bTV.
“I will quote the exact amount, which is for additional financing of 100% of the ravines for the Slatina bridge, it is BGN 14 million, so that we can finish what we have started. And the bridges that we have completed so far have a total value of BGN 3 million and the other two that we will complete are about BGN one million and two hundred,” points out Danka Lyurtova, Deputy Mayor of Karlovo Municipality.
The forecasts of the local administration is to fully restore the infrastructure of the affected villages by the end of 2025.
