The serial vandal returns to freedom: fear in Novacella – Bolzano

by times news cr

BOLZANO. For weeks, between last February and July, he had sown panic not only in the Ipes building where he lived, in via Novacella, but throughout the entire area, damaging parked cars, committing vandalism of all kinds, attacking and even threatening passers-by (including mothers and those with minor children) and residents.

He, a 24-year-old Iraqi, with a criminal conviction, but beneficiary of international protection status, had become everyone’s terror. Picked up and identified several times by the police, the young man returned each time to his apartment in Via Novacella, even angrier and more aggressive than before. On 18 July, at the end of the last raid, he was reported and expelled by the police commissioner. An expulsion which, however, was not applied precisely because the young man enjoyed international protection.

He had received an approach ban and had been fitted with an electronic bracelet. At the beginning of July, also thanks to numerous reports from now exasperated residents, reported by the press, the twenty-four-year-old’s wrists were placed in handcuffs. It seemed that peace had finally returned to the building and to the entire area. But everything lasted less than three months because, on September 20th, the boy was released from prison and returned to via Novacella.

First, the 24-year-old immediately tried to get back into what he thought was his home. Evidently, he did not know that his accommodation had been revoked and that the lock on the front door had also been changed. He made a lot of noise, thus announcing his very unwelcome return to the entire neighborhood. The level of apprehension rose to such a level that notices were posted inside the building, reporting the return of the young man and inviting everyone to call the police without delay in case he let himself go again to excesses. In the following days, the foreigner was reported still in the area.

He had drunk a coffee inside a previously damaged bar and had been spotted around the building where he lived. Nothing serious, in short, but, given the precedents, the residents of the area are very worried. And they are even now, even though the Iraqi hasn’t been seen for a few days. Everyone knows that sooner or later he will return. Dangerous and unpredictable as always.
