Ministry of External Affairs Maritime Affairs Secretary Rear Admiral (retd) Khurshid Alam has resigned. The announcement of the resignation came amid a change in administration after the formation of the interim government.

He submitted his resignation on Sunday (October 6) with a one-month notice period. Since 2009, the retired naval officer was working in this post on contractual basis.

Prior to this, Khurshid Alam was assigned as Acting Foreign Secretary in an office order of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on September 2. This information was informed in the office order signed by the Director General (Administration) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Nazmul Haque that day.

According to the office order, in view of the relinquishment of former Foreign Secretary (Senior Secretary) Masood Bin Momen on September 2, the Secretary of Maritime Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rear Admiral (retd.) Md. It has been decided that Khurshid Alam will perform the daily or emergency government functions of the Foreign Secretary. He will hold this charge until further orders.

In 2009, Khurshid Alam was appointed on contractual basis in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Later, this ex-Navy officer was appointed contractually on January 11, 2018 as the head of the Ministry’s Maritime Affairs Unit.
