Nurjahan Begum, adviser to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, said that the total number of martyrs in the recent student uprising across the country (till October 6) is 737 and the number of injured is 22,907.
He said this in a press conference organized by the Ministry in the conference room of the Ministry of Health at the Secretariat on Monday.
The advisor said that the committee formed for the purpose of formulating policies for the treatment of injured persons in different parts of the country and providing assistance to the families of the martyrs and to prepare a complete list including the identity of the martyrs and injured persons has already submitted a draft policy and a preliminary list of the wounded and dead to the ministry.
Stating that the prepared list has been published in the form of a public notice for public scrutiny, he said that the list will be finalized by facing all the challenges of creating the database in the shortest possible time.
Noorjahan Begum said that the treatment process is ongoing by bringing doctors and medical teams from abroad (from China, Nepal, France, Australia, etc.) . China’s advanced medical team has already arrived in Bangladesh. They visited the hospital and expressed their satisfaction with the treatment. In addition, contacts with various countries and multinational development organizations continue.
He said that 3 expert doctors from Nepal have come to National Ophthalmic Science and Institute and Hospital, Agargaon, Dhaka under the initiative of Seva Foundation and Health Services Department for the good treatment of eye patients injured in student uprising. Also, a specialist doctor is coming from France today. The British ambassador said that within 15 days, an orthopedic doctor from the UK will come to Bangladesh to provide medical services.
The expert doctors from Nepal treated a total of 192 people and operated on 4 critical patients from the National Institute of Ophthalmology and Hospital.
