As reported to Day.Az on Friday in the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan, at a meeting with the Minister of Mining and Energy of Brazil Alexandri Silveira It was noted that inter-country relations have entered a phase of active partnership through the COP and G20 platforms, and the oil and gas countries of Azerbaijan and Brazil have played an important role in the energy transition.
It was mentioned that the COP troika, consisting of Azerbaijan, the United Arab Emirates and Brazil, ensures joint cooperation in announcing and implementing new commitments and initiatives. The importance of a smooth energy transition was emphasized. The policy of the head of Azerbaijan was announced, aimed at developing “green” energy and investing in the “transition to green energy”, ongoing reforms, and ongoing projects.
It was also noted that activities with “green” energy continue to ensure energy supply and security of partners. It is Azerbaijan that is the initiator of projects that will connect Europe and Asia and provide “green energy” to various countries. During the conversation, the initiatives of the chairmanship were discussed COP29including steps taken towards climate finance. It was noted that cooperation between Azerbaijan and Brazil will contribute to the implementation of the goals of the COP.
At the meeting with the Minister of Energy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud, the situation on the global oil market, the implementation of agreements and obligations reached in the OPEC Plus format, as well as the implementation of projects on the energy partnership agenda between the two countries were discussed.
An exchange of views was held with ACWA Power on the development of 1.5 GW offshore wind projects and a 200 MW battery energy storage system (BESS), as well as cooperation within the framework of the “green energy corridor”. Steps for participation in COP29 events were considered, as well as the activities of the joint technical committee between the Ministries of Energy of both countries.
Azerbaijan’s Global Energy Storage and Grid Commitment initiative, the development of offshore wind energy and green energy transportation projects, and cooperation within the framework of COP29 were topics of discussion at a meeting with the CEO of the Global Renewable Energy Alliance, Bruce Douglas.
The Global Renewable Energy Alliance, which specializes in renewable energy technologies and represents the private sector in this area, has expressed interest in working with Azerbaijan and outlined possible private sector support for delivering on the grid promise. At COP29, the alliance’s participation in joint activities with the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), as well as COP initiatives, was reviewed.
