Chiefs Receiver Rashee Rice to Undergo Surgery for Knee Injury

Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice will have surgery on Tuesday to assess the extent of a knee injury he sustained eight days ago. Reports indicate that he received some encouraging news on Monday.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, Rice may have avoided a torn ACL but will still require an LCL repair.

Rapoport noted that Rice’s season “is expected to be over.” Additionally, Rapoport mentioned that Rice could be sidelined for “potentially three months” due to the necessary LCL repair. Importantly, this timeline does not completely end his season.

Rice’s current situation unfolds amidst unresolved legal issues, as he faces eight felony counts stemming from a street racing incident in March 2024. Initially, there was a strategy to postpone the resolution of these charges until after the season, with an acceptance of any suspension that may occur in 2025. However, with Rice now facing injury, it seems prudent to address these charges and potentially serve any suspension this season.

While Rice will still forfeit his game checks, he would not face a longer suspension than the time missed due to his injury.
