The first two evenings of the parallel acts under the title were a resounding success “Ode to the Arts”organized by the Municipality of Chania, the Municipal Art Gallery of Chania and the Region of Crete – Chania Regional Unit, as part of the exhibition “Nelly’s – Krasaki Collection”which is the canvas for a series of events that give an insight into different aspects of art.
The first night held on Friday, October 4, 2024 it was dedicated to literature, with the active participation of the audience as well as the participation of excellent speakers.
The discussion focused on the interaction of image and speech, on the importance of education and literature in the digital age. The speakers were Nikos Erinakis, Assistant Professor of Political Philosophy and Philosophy of Culture at the University of Crete and poet, Anna Kontoleon, writer, translator and playwright, Sitsa Kotsifaki, teacher, and the role of coordinator was Marina Aretaki, E.DI. p. of the Philology Department of the University of Crete. The evening emphasized the role of education in fostering thought and expression through the written word.
The second event, held on Saturday, October 5, 2024 dedicated to sculpture, with the famous sculptor Aspasia Papadoperakis as the main speaker, who spoke about the value of free drawing for children, especially in urban areas, as a key tool to develop creativity.
He, in fact, recommended the collaboration of the Ministry of Culture with the Ministry of Education to strengthen the participation of students in manual arts, such as wood carving and ceramics. Nikos Kampianakis, for his presentation, paid tribute to the work of the famous sculptor Yiannis Markantonakis, showing the magnificence of his works through unique photographs. Sculptor Antonis Pavlakis emphasized the artistic value of Nelly’s photographs, emphasizing the aesthetic perfection and balance of her work, comparing them to sculptures. The evening was praised by the philosopher Androniki Kokotsaki, who, with his intelligent direction, kept the interest of the audience alive. These two evenings at the Municipal Art Gallery of Chania were a fruitful meeting of art and education, with the audience filling the room, enriching the cultural dialogue of the city.
