“I thought it was a good thing for my soccer career.”
National team midfielder Baek Seung-ho (27) extended his contract with Birmingham of England’s League 1 (third division) by two years.
Birmingham announced on the 7th (Korean time), “We have signed a new contract with Baek Seung-ho. Baek Seung-ho will stay in Birmingham until June 30, 2028.”
Baek Seung-ho signed a 2-year and 6-month contract with Birmingham of the English Championship (second division) last January until June 30, 2026.
This contract extension is unexpected news.
Baek Seung-ho, who wore the Birmingham uniform through the winter transfer window last January, quickly established himself as a key player in the team. However, they were unable to prevent the team from being relegated and are playing in the third division this season.
In the summer transfer market, several teams in the Championship, including Leeds, Sheffield, and Sunderland, showed interest in Baek Seung-ho. However, Birmingham, which is competing for promotion this season, retained Baek Seung-ho, the team’s core player.
Some predicted that Baek Seung-ho, who was unable to change teams last summer, would seek a transfer to a higher league team during the winter transfer market.
However, Baek Seung-ho decided to remain with the team that showed high trust in him. Baek Seung-ho has solidified his position as a key member of the team, starting in all of Birmingham’s games this season.
Birmingham coach Chris Davis officially gave his support to Baek Seung-ho, saying, “I am confident that Baek Seung-ho will be a key player for Birmingham not only this season but also in the future.”
Baek Seung-ho, who signed a new contract, said, “I am really happy to extend my contract. “Since the start of the new season, there has been confidence that Birmingham will be able to achieve results,” he said. “Everyone will be watching to see Birmingham making a good progress. “I think living in Birmingham has been a great experience for my football career.”
Meanwhile, Birmingham is currently leading League 1 with 7 wins, 1 draw, and 1 loss (22 points) after playing 9 games, 2 points ahead of Wrexham (20 points), which has played one more game. The first and second-place teams in League 1 will be promoted to the Championship next season.
