“Al-Dabaiba” addresses the Central Bank Governor to cancel the dollar tax

The head of the National Unity Government, Abdul Hamid Al-Dabaiba, called on the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, Naji Belkacem Issa, not to implement the House of Representatives’ decision to reduce the foreign exchange sales tax to 20%, and to cancel it completely.

Al-Dabaiba said in a letter to the bank governor: “With reference to the Speaker of Parliament’s Resolution No. (68) of 2024 AD, regarding amending the value of the fee imposed on the official exchange rate, which set the value of this fee at 20% for all purposes, and since this violates the provisions of Law No. (27) ) for the year 2001 AD, by issuing some provisions regarding fees and fees for services, which specified the authority responsible for imposing fees, which is not the House of Representatives or its president. It also came as an amendment to a decision that several judicial rulings had been issued to cancel, and we are surprised by the speed of its implementation by you.

He added: “Considering that this decision and its direct repercussions negatively affect the citizen’s livelihood as a result of the rise in the price of basic commodities necessary for citizens, which the National Unity Government is entrusted with providing, therefore, and based on the duties of the National Unity Government to provide decent means of life for the citizen, out of respect for the rulings of the judiciary, and to give precedence to the public interest, the matter requires Continue to sell foreign exchange for all purposes without imposing the aforementioned fee.”
