The 103rd edition of the Trois Vallées Varésines was canceled on Tuesday 8 October after riders, including superstar Tadej Pogacar, dismounted after more than an hour of riding in the cold and rain. The runners, with the Slovenian Pogacar in the front row, stopped at the first crossing of the finish line of an event held on a circuit, according to the images broadcast by the public television Rai Sport. Due to the poor weather conditions prevailing in Lombardy, the organizers had previously postponed by twenty minutes the start of the event which serves as a dress rehearsal for the Giro di Lombardia which will take place next Saturday. They had also cut the route by 32 km. At the time of the interruption, six riders, including Frenchman Romain Bardet who will retire in June 2025, had broken away and were two minutes ahead of the group of favourites. The women’s race, held in the pouring rain in the morning, ended and was won by the Frenchwoman Cédrine Kerbaol.
