Having become essential in almost 8 seasons and 11 years of broadcast, this series will soon say goodbye to Netflix. The end of filming has been announced.

Since the advent of streaming platforms that focus more on miniseries and shorter shows, it’s increasingly rare to see series continue to captivate viewers for ten years and almost as many seasons. One of these, which marked the golden period of Netflix, will end in the next few months, after 8 seasons, 101 episodes and 11 years of existence.

Because the filming ofForeigner it was completed at the end of last September. Since 2014, this adaptation of Diana Gabaldon’s novels, mixing history and fantasy, tells the story of a World War II nurse who finds herself magically transported to 1743, while Scotland is in the throes of uprising. There she meets her husband’s ancestor, but above all a Highland warrior, and finds herself torn between two eras and two men.

Romantic, fantastic, dramatic and historical, Foreigner it checks a lot of boxes to attract large numbers of viewers. Often praised for its aesthetic and epic production (with battle scenes and high dramatic stakes), the series gets a 91% positive rating from press on Rotten Tomatoes, 3.7/5 from press and 4.2 /5 from the public on Allociné.

The end of Foreigner will logically create an event, especially since the longevity of the series makes it a recurring event for its fans. “More than a series, we are a family,” the program’s Instagram account wrote when the end of filming was announced last September. “And even though filming is over, this journey isn’t quite over yet, it’s just the beginning.” A spin-off, entitled Blood of my blood, centered on Jamie Fraser‘s parents, will see the light soon.

However, fans still have some time before they have to say goodbye Foreigner. First, the second part of season 7 will premiere in the US on November 22, 2024, and in US+24 on Netflix the following day. After that there will be an eighth and final season to devour before saying goodbye to Claire and Jamie. If filming wrapped in September, the online date is not yet known, but fans logically shouldn’t find out the series finale until 2025.
