Alexandru Giboi has been re-elected for a third term as Secretary General of the General Assembly of the European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA). His candidacy was proposed by the AFP agency.

“I am humbled by the trust of EANA members and look forward to continuing to work to ensure that agencies operate within democratic principles. With the creation of new committees, the alliance will have additional opportunities to address future challenges. I am pleased to continue to collaborate with my board colleagues and all members of the alliance,” – Giboy stated.
EANA also elected Patrick Lacroix, CEO of Belgian agency Belga, as a new board member for a three-year term. His candidacy was proposed by the German agency dpa.
“I am honored to be elected to the EANA Board. I am grateful to my colleagues for their trust. EANA’s mission of protecting and promoting the interests of European agencies is very important to me. I am ready to support efforts to ensure the free and impartial dissemination of news, which is especially important today.
As CEO of Belga, I have always valued collaboration and innovation. I am ready to contribute to the work of the board, strengthen our network, share experience and solve current problems using new opportunities.
I look forward to serving the interests of all EANA members and promoting the values that the alliance stands for,” said Lacroix.
EANA is also creating several new committees that will promote innovation and strengthen the role of news organizations in today’s media landscape. The committees will address key issues in the industry: from the introduction of new technologies to the protection of intellectual property. EANA is committed to promoting collaboration, innovation and ethical journalism, which will enable it to remain an important partner in dialogue among European media.
Each committee is headed by a chairman nominated by the board and approved by the General Assembly:
• Committee for the Development of Artificial Intelligence – Elmir Huremovich (CEO of FENA),
• Business Development Committee – Emily Shelley (CEO PA Media),
• Committee on Public News Agencies – Aimilios Perdikaris (President of ANA-MPA),
• Copyright Committee – Peter Kropsch (CEO dpa),
• Equality and Inclusion Committee – Branka Vojvodić (CEO HINA),
• Committee against disinformation – Sergey Cherevaty (General Director of Ukrinform),
• Committee on the Future of News Agencies – Joaquim Carreira (President and CEO of LUSA).
EANA President and AFP CEO Fabrice Frise said: “News agencies face many challenges and EANA’s role in supporting them is becoming increasingly important. I thank Elmir Huremovic for his contribution to the board and congratulate Patrick Lacroix on his election. Also congratulations to Alexandra Giboya a new term of office as Secretary General.”
The EANA General Assembly took place in Rome with the support of ANSA and EY. An important event of the event was the meeting of EANA members with Italian President Sergio Mattarella at the Quirinal Palace.
