Diameter asteroid Apophis is more than 350 m, density 3000 kg/m3, and weight – 27 million tons. This was reported on Radio 1, Day.Az reports.

“Asteroid Apophis, the size of a 120-story building, could destroy the earth in 2029. This statement was made by Canadian astronomer Paul Wiegert, citing a previously made critical error in calculations,” the material reports.

According to NASA estimates, if Apophis collides with the Earth, it will be comparable to the explosion of 40 atomic bombs, similar to the one dropped on Hiroshima.

However, according to calculations, Apophis will fly between the Earth and the Moon in April 2029. Its collision with the planet is considered something impossible due to the current trajectory of the celestial body.

Let us recall that earlier scientist Anatoly Zaitsev considered the likelihood of an asteroid colliding with a planet to be unlikely.

The asteroid Apophis was discovered in 2003 at the Kitt Peak Observatory in Arizona.

After the celestial body flew past Earth in 2013, NASA jet propulsion specialists said that collisions between the asteroid and the planet in 2029 and 2036 were excluded.
