Kazakhstan celebrates Azerbaijani Culture Days

Within the framework of Azerbaijan Culture Days in Kazakhstanorganized by the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan, took place at the Kazakh National Music and Drama Theater named after Kuanyshbayev concert of ethno-jazz group “Zaman”reported Day.Az from the press service of the department.

At the opening of the evening, the artistic director of the group, pianist and composer Vasif Huseyn spoke about the history and features of Azerbaijani ethno-jazz.

Composer Vagif Mustafazade (1940-1979), considered a legend of Azerbaijani jazz art, had an original performance style.

He combined our mugams with jazz technique, creating a new musical genre such as jazz mugam. And today, many musicians use in their performances the synthesis of jazz-mugham created by Vagif Mustafazadeh.

“The desire to create the group “Zaman” is connected with my interest and love for our national musical instruments. Our musicians play the balaban, tyutek, zurna, etc. We try to preserve the character of national musical instruments as they are, and in various compositions synthesize them with Western instruments,” the musician said.

The group also includes Saleh Mamedov (bass guitar), Eyvaz Gashimov (drums), Fagan Rakhmanoglu (wind instruments) and pianist, composer Vasif Huseyn (also artistic director of the group).

The interesting concert program included the compositions “Biri var idi, biri yox idi”, “Zaman”, “Baharda”, “İmprovizə”, “Ulduzlararası” and the Kazakh folk song “Yapuray”, which were met with applause from the audience.
