“The next few days will be a holiday for the citizens of Ruse and guests of the city. Ruse will once again be the first in the cultural life of the country, and I hope that other cities will follow us and this event will take place on their stages as well.”

With these words, the mayor Pencho Milkov late last night and in front of the full Great Hall in the Revenue Building opened the first International Festival “Autumn Theater Meetings in Ruse”, which will last until October 13. Special guests at the opening of the festival were the Minister of Culture Nayden Todorov and the conceptual initiator of the event, Katya Kostova, and the event was honored by the deputy mayors Encho Enchev and Dimitar Nedev, reported the press center of the Ruse municipality.

The minister shared with the audience that he considers his native Ruse to be the cultural capital of Bulgaria. According to him, the most exciting part of the festival is the meetings with the artists, because they create in the viewer his attitude to art. Nayden Todorov wished to attend the 15th edition of “Autumn Theater Meetings in Ruse” after some time.

The program of the festival began with the performance of the “Sava Ognyanov” Drama Theater “A Strange Incident with a Dog in the Night”. The production is based on the world bestseller by Mark Haddon, and its director is the director of the Ruse cultural institution, Boyan Ivanov. His interpretation of the work aims, through provocation, to open the viewer to the perceptions of the different. The performance was subtitled in Romanian – a gift for the guests of the city from our northern neighbor who decided to visit the festival.

The program of the first edition of the cultural forum includes celebrations of two great Bulgarian actresses – the 80th anniversary of Tsvetana Maneva and the 90th anniversary of the birth of Tatyana Lolova, as well as performances of the Plovdiv Theater and the Skopje Drama Theater, and the closing on Sunday will be with the performance “Happy birthday, Tsvetana”.

“Autumn Theater Meetings” is financed by the Ministry of Culture and under the “Culture” program of the Municipality of Ruse.
