The Ministry of Industry and Trade recommended that Russian producers temporarily stop the shipment of fertilizers for export due to problems with logistics. Disruptions in fertilizer shipments risk food shortages for hundreds of millions of people, the ministry warned.

“There is a situation where, due to sabotage of deliveries by a number of foreign logistics companies, farmers in Europe and other countries cannot receive the contracted volumes of fertilizers,” the ministry’s website said in a statement.

It is noted that “due to sabotage” the risks of crop failure “and, as a result, food shortages for countries” where Russia supplies fertilizers are increasing – Europe, Latin America, South and Southeast Asia.

“Disruptions in fertilizer shipments could directly affect the national security of a number of countries and cause serious consequences in the form of food shortages for hundreds of millions of people already in the medium term,” the report says.

The recommendation on shipment in the ministry was called a forced measure. This recommendation will remain “until carriers resume rhythmic work and provide guarantees for the fulfillment of export deliveries of Russian fertilizers in full,” the report said.
