Western Cuba is already beginning to be affected by Hurricane Milton

Hurricane Milton, which has decreased to category 4 in the last few hours, is already making its effects felt in western Cuba.

Pinar del Río recorded wind gusts of up to 60 km/h, accompanied by intense rains and possible tornadoes.

The provinces of Isla de la Juventud and Mayabeque will also be affected in the coming days, when the phenomenon reaches its most critical point.

Although the hurricane will not pass directly through Cuba, its wide circulation is generating adverse weather conditions. The Temporary Working Group of the Isle of Youth met to evaluate possible damage, highlighting the importance of securing roofs and structures, as well as attending to the pruning of trees that could damage electrical networks or buildings.

Meanwhile, in Mexico, authorities are breathing a sigh of relief as they confirm that Milton will not make landfall on the Yucatan Peninsula. However, sustained winds of 250 km/h and torrential rains continue to affect states such as Campeche, Yucatán and Quintana Roo, where evacuation measures and shelters have been implemented for the population, especially in tourist areas such as Cancún.

On the other hand, in the United States, the National Hurricane Center warns that Milton represents a significant threat to Florida, where it is expected to make landfall on Wednesday. Despite having decreased in intensity, the hurricane remains extremely dangerous and alerts remain on the entire west coast of the peninsula.

The political scenario has also gained relevance in the midst of the emergency.

In Florida, controversy occurred over the lack of communication between Governor Ron DeSantis and President Joe Biden regarding hurricane preparations. Although both leaders have claimed to be coordinating efforts, the situation has generated tensions, as the state prepares for one of the largest evacuations since 2017.

Despite fluctuations in its intensity, Milton continues to move strongly towards Florida, where local authorities urge residents to follow evacuation instructions and take precautionary measures to face the impact of this potentially catastrophic hurricane.
