Giving offerings to so-called “workers” (people who dedicate themselves to Church services), missionaries and pastors is a common practice in evangelical churches, as it finds biblical support, considering that many of these people dedicate themselves to full-time ministry, depending from his brothers to survive.

Some, however, understand that the donation of offerings is not necessary in most cases, since volunteering for the Kingdom of God is part of the Christian life, which is most of the examples we see in religious communities, that is: of people which makes them not dependent on donations to survive.

This is the case of a man named Elliott Davis, a former investigative reporter for American TV. Having retired after 35 years of service in journalism, he now dedicates much of his time to the Kingdom of God, preaching and participating in Bible studies.

“One of the things I’ve been able to do in retirement that’s been really important to me is participate in Bible studies,” he said. “I have a great group of men that I study the Bible with and it’s always a great time to share the word and enjoy each other’s company.”

Generous offer

It was during one of these actions, while serving in a church, that Davis was surprised to receive a check. It was an offer worth $500, the equivalent of almost R$2,800.00 if you convert the currency to Brazilian real, based on today’s exchange rate (9).

“My church has been so generous that I recently opened an envelope and found that the church had given me $500 for speaking to the congregation,” he said, referring to the denomination. Temple of miracles of faith, as per your statement above Facebook.

The pensioner, in turn, said he refused the sum of money because for him his initiative was just a “great opportunity to spread the word of God and glorify Jesus Christ in my life”.

“I thought I couldn’t take money for this. I couldn’t accept money because I had the opportunity to glorify God,” he stressed. With the offer in hand, the pensioner decided to return the sum to the ministry itself.

“I decided to give the $500 back to the church to help them with their ministry. Faith Miracle Temple, with Pastor Marlon Baylor and Bishop Larry Baylor, is doing so much good in the community and I wanted to help, even with the small gesture of giving back the $500. I am very grateful to the generosity of the Church. God is good,” he concluded.
