Chairman of the State Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan for Work with Diaspora is on a visit to Malaysia Fuad Muradov met with the Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of this country, Awang Bemee.

Welcoming the guest, the Senate Chairman emphasized that relations between the two countries have been developing on an upward trajectory in recent years, and expressed gratitude for the invitation of Malaysian officials to the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Baku.

Thanking for the warm welcome, the chairman of the committee recalled with satisfaction that last year marked 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Malaysia. He thanked the government and people of Malaysia for their constant support in the UN, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and other international platforms for the fair position of our country for 30 years, during which 20 percent of Azerbaijan’s territory was under the occupation of Armenia.

Informing about the diaspora policy of the Azerbaijani state, history, directions of the committee’s activities and ongoing projects, the chairman emphasized that there are great prospects for cooperation between the two countries, shared his opinion on the integration of the Azerbaijani community into Malaysian society and the educational opportunities for our young compatriots.

The meeting was also attended by Malaysian Parliament Senators Manolan bin Mohamad, Tuan Isaiah D. Jacob, Nelson Renganathan and Zuraina Musa.

The next meeting of the chairman of the committee took place with the head of the friendship group of the Malaysian parliament for the West Asian region, Zahir bin Hassan. Recalling his visit to Azerbaijan in May of this year, the Malaysian MP assessed the existence of a visa-free regime between the two countries as an indicator of the high level of bilateral relations.

Reporting on the activities of the committee created by the national leader of the Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev, Fuad Muradov noted that in accordance with the recommendations of President Ilham Aliyev, the integration of our compatriots into local communities is being carried out, reported on the work carried out by Azerbaijani communities abroad, as well as on preserving them national identity, projects implemented with representatives of peoples friendly to our country, the educational life of Azerbaijani students in Malaysia, shared opinions on the exchange of experience within the framework of international projects.

At the meeting, an exchange of views took place on the development of cooperation on issues of mutual interest.

As part of the visit, the chairman of the committee also met with the Deputy Minister of Higher Education of Malaysia, Mustafa Sakmud. Expressing satisfaction with the level of relations between the two countries, the Deputy Minister emphasized the importance of strengthening activities in the field of mutual student exchange.

Speaking about the state’s concern for education in Azerbaijan, Fuad Muradov spoke about the state program for studying abroad, the Karabakh University, which began its activities this year in Khankendi, “Azerbaijan Houses” and weekend schools working with the support of the state committee.

Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Malaysia Irfan Davudov also took part in the meeting.
