The Office for Verification and Election of Candidates (OVEC) is currently screening the nomination documents received for the upcoming elections. Until Sunday 29 September, OVEC is focusing on carefully examining these files, with the idea of making a clear decision. The following day, September 30, the provisional list of candidates will be published in each municipality.
At the moment, no final figures have been communicated regarding the applications. The Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) is unable to predict the publication of the provisional list. However, reports are circulating that a total of 1,695 applications have been registered across the country. Among those applications, 157 municipalities present unique candidates.
It is important to note that once the list is published, it may be contested. Candidates who are not satisfied with the decision of the OEC have 48 hours to appeal. In addition, they will have an additional period of 48 hours to bring their complaint before the Administrative Tribunal, which will ensure a transparent and fair process.
The official list of candidates will be revealed on October 8, an announcement expected to determine who will appear on the ballot. The number of candidates will be drawn on October 9 in each district, which will add an extra dimension to these already closely watched elections.
OVEC and CENI seek to ensure a fair and transparent election, while respecting the deadlines to maintain public confidence in this democratic process.
