Frenchman Côme Girardot set a new world record for the “death dive” by jumping from a 44 meter high cliff at the Cimbarra waterfall in Spain.

Frenchman Côme Girardot set a new world record for the “death dive” by jumping from a 44 meter high cliff at the Cimbarra waterfall in Spain.

The 22-year-old from Bordeaux reached speeds of 106 km/h as he plunged into the water with his arms and legs in front.

The death dive, which originated in Norway, is different from the traditional height dive. During jumping, the figures are more similar to snowboarding or skating styles, unlike high diving, whose difficulties are comparable to gymnastics.

Girardot’s feat surpassed the records previously set by Ken Stornes and Lucien Charlon.
