Participants will compete in three categories, namely Seniors, Juniors and Classic, which will make this prestigious competition more attractive.
The Senior Throne Cup will take place on the blue course with the participation of teams made up of 10 players in addition to the captain, while the red course will host the Classic Throne Cup which will bring together the best Moroccan golfers and who will evolve into teams including ten players in addition to the captain.
This competition will be marked by the participation of players appearing in the world ranking of amateur golf players, including African and Arab champions in 2022.
The Royal Moroccan Golf Federation (FRMG) and the Hassan II Golf Trophy Association (ATH) had scheduled in 2023, and for the first time, a competition reserved for young golfers “Junior Throne Cup”.
Thus, the second edition of the Junior Throne Cup will take place on the green course of the Royal Golf Dar Es Salam, with the participation of teams composed of six players aged 9 to 14 years old in addition to the team captain.
This year, Royal Golf Dar Es Salam will try to win its 11th trophy, while Royal Golf Anfa Mohammedia will compete in this competition with the stated objective of defending its title, gleaned last year at the expense of Royal Golf Dar Es Salam.
Organized by the FRMG and the ATH, the Golf Throne Cup, which will be contested by teams, will see the participation of the clubs Royal Golf Dar Es Salam from Rabat, Casa Green Golf, Golf Beach Cabo Negro from Tétouan, Golf de l Ocean of Agadir, Noria Golf Club of Marrakech, Oued Fez, Palm Golf Casablanca and the Royal Country Club of Tangier.
These include Royal Golf Agadir, Royal Golf de Fez, Royal Golf de Marrakech, Royal Golf Meknes, Royal Golf El Jadida, Saidia Lacs, Tazegzout Golf Club d’Agadir, The Montgomerie Rabat, The Tony Jacklin Casablanca and the Royal Golf Anfa Mohammedia.
The elimination phases will be held on July 23 and 24 in two rounds according to the “stroke play” formula, while the quarter-finals and semi-finals will take place, respectively, on July 25 and 26 in direct confrontation with calculation of points, hole after hole, according to the “match play” formula.
As for the final, it will take place next Saturday in the morning, while the classification match will take place in the afternoon of the same day.
The organization of the Throne Cup in three categories is an initiative of HRH Prince Moulay Rachid, president of the FRMG, in order to welcome all age categories practicing golf, declared to MAP, the 1st vice-president president of the FRMG, Mustapha Zine, at the end of the presentation ceremony of the clubs participating in this annual golf event, organized Monday at the Royal Golf Dar Es Salam.
This approach also aims to broaden the base of young practitioners of this sport, which results this year in the presence of a large number of young golfers and women, he said, adding that golf continues to grow. ‘be widely practiced in the different regions of the Kingdom and is no longer considered an elite sport.
He underlined, in this sense, that this year’s edition of the Throne Cup records the participation of new clubs from several cities, alongside the pioneer clubs, which aspire to forge their way to glory and compete with the classic clubs which previously focused on the Rabat-Casablanca axis.
For his part, the president of the organizing committee for sports competitions within the FRMG, Jalil Benazouz, indicated that the participation of 18 clubs in the Golf Throne Cup reflects the development of this discipline in Morocco and the efforts agreed by the Federation in order to create conditions conducive to the practice of this sport and to attract the greatest number of young golfers. The latter, he observed, will be called upon to take over in the future and represent Morocco in various continental and international meetings.
The links of the Royal Golf Dar Es Salam, which host the biggest golfing competitions such as the Hassan II Trophy, the HRH Princess Lalla Meryem Cup in addition to the Asian Tour, are of a world level, -he congratulated, continuing that holding the Throne Cup at the Royal Golf Dar Es Salam will allow Moroccan players, elite and young, to express their talent and give the best of themselves.
The presentation ceremony of the clubs participating in the 19th edition of the Golf Throne Cup was marked by the presence, in particular, of the Minister of National Education, Preschool and Sport, Chakib Benmoussa, the 1st vice-president of the FRMG, Mustapha Zine in addition to the presidents of the participating clubs.
