Dhe news of the death of the famous innkeeper Rudi Hirsch, who ran the inn “Hirsch 28-WIRTShaus & delikatESSEN” in Groß Gerungs since 2016, makes many people sad and shocked. Rudi Hirsch died on October 8 at the age of 51.

Together with his partner Renate Stadlhofer, Rudi Hirsch took over his parents’ inn in Groß Gerungs in 2016. Since then, the innovative and committed couple has won many awards. Rudi Hirsch and Renate Stadlhofer, who managed the inn, went from “Rising Star of the Year” in 2018, to “Top Wirt Winner” Wirtshauskultur of Lower Austria, to “NÖ Weinwirt 2022”, a hint in the Gault Millau 2024 and a fork Falstaff is known far beyond the borders of the Waldviertel.

The passionate restaurateur, who had this passion in his cradle and acquired his knowledge and skills in famous establishments in Austria, France and Germany as well as Styria, was in poor health. According to the innkeeper’s homepage, he wanted to start his disability pension in November. Unfortunately, that did not happen again. Rudi Hirsch died on October 8.

Mayor Christian Laister is particularly saddened by the death of his very good friend. “His death is extremely tragic. He grew up here in Groß Gerungs and ran the Teichstüberl very successfully for several years. After returning to the Waldviertel, he devoted himself wholeheartedly to his parents’ hotel and turned it into what it is today. My condolences to the entire family.”

Rudi Hirsch’s funeral will take place on October 18.
