Work can and should provide a livelihood but also be a source of meaning, purpose and joy.

Working adults spend more hours working than in any other activity during the day. For too many people, however, work is far from ideal, failing to improve their lives and degrading their mental health and well-being, leading to excessive stress and mental health problems.

Mental health issues such as depression and anxiety are common in workplaces, affecting productivity, attendance and overall performance. Finally, people with mental health problems experience exclusion or difficulty integrating and staying in a work environment. Today, around the world, it is recognized that addressing the mental health needs of employees not only leads to individuals, but also to healthy and effective organizations and businesses. The evidence consistently shows that promoting mental health in the workplace benefits people, companies and communities.

The goal is clear: to support mental health in the workplace and develop best practices that will create cultures where employees are empowered to contribute productively and thrive.

In the context of the Completion of the Psychiatric Reform and Law 5129/2024, particular emphasis was placed on the policies and process to integrate people with mental health problems into the labor market through CoiSPE. The National Network of Mental Health Services which will begin its operation from 1 January 2025 will aim to develop initiatives by the local Regional Networks of Mental Health Services according to the Ministry of Health to prevent and promote mental health in the workplace.

The National Action Plan for Mental Health

With all of the above, the Ministry of Health strengthens and protects mental health in the workplace by ensuring modern, free, specialized and innovative services for all citizens, prioritizing mental health.
