After his arrest in August 2022, he was tortured three times a day, demanding information about alleged sabotage groups. The Ukrainian said that the occupiers connected wires to his genitals and beat him with electric shockers. Tretyakov also described how he was beaten, handcuffed and subjected to other forms of torture, including having his fingers struck with stun guns.
The occupiers did not stop their atrocities for several weeks. The man recalled that he had to write answers because he could no longer speak due to cruel torture. According to him, when one of the executioners shot him in the knee, he asked to be killed because he could not stand the pain. Despite all the suffering, Tretyakov did not admit to anything and did not betray anyone.
He was later transferred to a prison in occupied Crimea, where the torture continued. The occupiers used new methods, including connecting him to a more powerful electrical device. At the time of the torture, there were eight FSB officers in the room, who took turns “entertaining” by depriving him of the ability to breathe and subjecting him to electric shocks.
The prisoner was tortured for eight hours, which is why he tried to commit suicide. He cut his hands, but the occupiers stitched up his wounds and continued the torture. Roman recalled how he begged for morphine because he could not move due to severe pain. After 19 months of imprisonment in the pre-trial detention center on Chongar, he was released in the spring of 2024, and he was able to reach the territory controlled by Ukraine.
The head of support for victims of sexual violence during the conflict at the Office of the Prosecutor General, Valeria Baturinskaya, noted that there is a Coordination Center in Ukraine that provides assistance to victims and witnesses of such crimes. The center provides support with the consent of victims, and currently more than a thousand people are receiving assistance, including 53 male survivors of sexual violence.
